Climate Change Day
Article 24 – Every child has the right to a clean and safe environment
Article 24 – Every child has the right to healthy food.
In support of the work of Greta Thumberg, Penwortham joined her Climate Strike by having a CLIMATE CHANGE DAY. Each year group selected an action to focus on that linked to Climate change:
Year 1 – deforestation / recycling
Year 2 – food wastage
Year 3 – rewilding
Year 4 – air pollution
Year 5 – general
Year 6 – Unblockober
During the day they learnt about the issue and identified ways to help reduce the effect on climate change. Where appropriate, they started campaigning by writing letters to councils and other organisations about their concerns and what actions need to be taken. In the afternoon, the whole school created banners and placards and took to the streets to have their voices heard.
The day was a great success. As part of OUTRIGHT 2019-2020, the year groups are going to continue the campaigning on the work they have already started.
